Significance for society – our sustainable and evolving operating environment

Reducing CO2 emissions

In reducing CO2 emissions, we focus on influencing direct emissions, emissions related to energy consumption and indirect emissions in the value chain.

We operate close to our customers from our local offices. We can also reduce the number of kilometres driven with precise work planning. In 2024, we replaced some of the diesel we use with biodiesel. In addition, the company began exploring the use of electric cars in the Group’s sales and installation operations.

We have also taken the reduction of CO2 emissions into account in our properties. The Orimattila production plant and the Pirkkala profile factory use solar energy in their energy production.

We develop our operations and products from the perspective of CO2 emissions in cooperation with our partners. For example, we are involved in SSAB’s fossil-free steel initiative, which aims for fossil-free steel production.

Our own heating plant for energy production

We crush the combustible wood coming from construction sites. The crushed wood is used at the company’s own heating plant. The energy produced is then used to heat the Pirkkala profile production factory and the company’s headquarters, which is located in the same property.

Precise waste recycling

All demolition waste generated at our sites is carefully sorted and recycled whenever possible. Our goal is to have a reccycling rate of atleast 70%. The waste is sorted at the site, and we recycle over 80% of all waste that is generated at construction sites. Precise sorting ensures that the construction materials have the longest possible lifespan and that the environmental impactis as low as possible.

Sustainable use of raw materials

Our expert product development and technical solutions allow us to influence the quantity and quality of the required raw materials. Our core products use high-strength low-alloy steel, which can withstand even heavy snow loads significantly better than traditional solutions. Lighter material makes installation easier and improves ergonomics.

Durable products are aesthetically pleasing and easy to upkeep. The design and corrosion resistance also reduce the need for repairs and maintenance since the products remain in good condition.

Fully recycled steel

Steel makes up Vesivek’s largest recycling batch: we accumulate 5,000 tonnes of steel annually. We sort the steel for use in different quality streams, and the steel is completely recycled. We collaborate with the steel company SSAB, and our shared goal is to improve the recovery of recycled steel.

Pioneers in occupational safety

All of our installers undergo a thorough induction in occupational safety, and a statutory occupational safety plan is always drawn up for the site. We were the first in the industry to introduce scaffolding as fall protection for roof renovations in 2018. This reduced the number of occupational accidents by up to 70%–80%. The use of cranes in installations further increases safety, as materials do not need to be carried to the roof. This also speeds up installations.
